This dish is a classic Asian-inspired meal that has been served in my family for generations. It was first created by my great-grandmother who was born in China and immigrated to the United States. She would often make this dish for special occasions and it quickly became a family favorite. Ingredients

  • 1 lb (454 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey
  • 3 cups (600 g) cooked white rice

Cooking Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the shrimp and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp are cooked through.
  • Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey and stir to combine.
  • Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve the shrimp over cooked white rice.
