Mexican-Style Baked Tacos

A delicious Mexican-style dish that is easy to make and sure to please the whole family!

I first had Mexican-style baked tacos when I visited my aunt in Mexico City. She served them to me with a side of refried beans and a cold glass of horchata. The combination of the crunchy tacos, melted cheese, and flavorful salsa was amazing! I knew I had to recreate this dish at home and have been making it ever since. It's always a hit with my family and friends when I serve it.

Ingredients

  • 8 tacos shells (6-inch/15 cm)
  • 1 lb (454 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 mL) black pepper
  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) salsa
  • 1 cup (240 mL) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) sour cream

Cooking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper to the beef. Stir to combine.
  • Place the tacos shells on a baking sheet. Divide the beef mixture among the tacos shells.
  • Top the tacos with salsa and shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Top with sour cream and serve.
